Clyde Smith

Clyde L. Smith, 87, went to be with our Lord Saturday, March 7, 2015. He was born May 23, 1927 in Barry County, MI the son of Roland and Edith (VandenBosh) Smith. Clyde grew up in the Hickory Corners area and lived his life in Battle Creek making many friends in his life journey. Mr. Smith was proud of his work as a Masonry Contractor for 50 years. Clyde helped make the cement blocks and layered them for the Hickory Corners American Legion #484. He was a continuous member for 69 years. He was an avid ice fisherman, poker player, and never met anyone he didn’t like. In 1945 Clyde enlisted in the US Navy. He received the Asiatic Pacific Area Ribbon and World War II Victory Ribbon. Clyde married the late Naomi Shive and together they raised two daughters. He is survived by his daughters, Judy (David) Kirkby and Betty Tullis-Cook; brother, Harold (Lois) Smith; sisters, Margaret Bailey and Helen (Ron) Skidmore; grandchildren, Brian Tullis, Andrea Knickerbocker, Stacy Fate, Scott Tullis, Tom Cook, Todd Kirkby, and Elizabeth Kirkby; 12 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sister, Marion Smith; and two brothers, Robert and Arthur Smith. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4:00-6:00 PM at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 12:00 PM at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service with Rev. Edward Lane Davis officiating. Burial will be at the Reese Cemetery in Springfield, MI. Memorial tributes may be made to Hickory Corners American Legion #484, Church of God Family Worship Center, and or Kalamazoo/Battle Creek Bronson Hospice.
