Tom passed away Saturday, May 12, 2018 at the age of 75. He was born in Saginaw Michigan on May 19, 1942 to the late K. Thompson and Arlene (Labadie) Starkweather. He was a graduate of the University of Connecticut, majoring in Real Estate. During his career in commercial real estate, he appraised in Detroit, Chicago, New York with New York Life, and in Los Angeles with the Crocker Mortgage Company. He has been a Bay Area resident throughout his life, where he continued with real estate appraising and advising. He has been active in the community, serving on numerous boards and committees, including the City Charter Commission, Bay County Pension Fund, Bay-Arenac Behavioral Health Board, Bay County Human Services Board, and Friends of Celtic Culture. Known fondly by friends as “Toad”, he lived in “stately Toad Manor” where he enjoyed hosting yard parties that featured his smoked turkey and “full contact croquet”. He enjoyed adventures that included Wheatland, Mackinaw Island, camping, and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Michelle; sons, Morgan N. (Jenni) Starkweather of Bay City MI and Thompson L. Starkweather of Los Angeles CA; three grandsons, Ethan, Edward, and Andrew of Bay City; his brother Frank (Julia) Starkweather; neice, Liberty Starkweather Smith of Saginaw Township MI; nephew, Stuart Starkweather of Boston MA; his cousin, Kim Neighbors of Wesley Chapel FL; and numerous special and dearly loved friends.
A Life Celebration yard party is being planned for August 11, 2018. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to the Wishes of the Family, the Bay County Medical Care Facility, or Friends of Celtic Culture.
