TRAVERSE CITY [mdash] Donald Thomas Harvey died Thursday, April 11, 2019 at the age of 78 surrounded by loved ones.
He was born Aug. 2, 1940 in Battle Creek, to Jack and Ruth (Townsend) Harvey.
Don was a veteran of the United States Navy and he spent the remainder of his life building businesses of his own, carving, and custom woodworking. Known to many as “The Woodcarver” he was a well known local artist and traveled the United States creating chainsaw carvings. He was also known for the beautiful and life like hand carved pieces he created over the years.
Don was a hardworking family man who loved hunting, fishing, and cooking. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Don is survived by the mother of his children, Elaine Harvey; his children, John G. Harvey, Drew C. (RoseMarie) Harvey, Karla S. (Edwin) Chandler; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was also survived by three brothers, Bill (LiMa) Harvey, Mike (Linda) Harvey, and Pat (Sharon) Harvey; and several nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; and beloved sister, Peggy Burrett.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday April 20 at Christ Community Church, Traverse City, with the Rev. Jake Thomas officiating.
