Daniel Kenneth “Merlin” Laginess Jr., 64, Ellsworth, died May 28, 2019, in Traverse City.
A celebration of his life will be held at Great Lakes National Cemetery, where he will receive full military honors, Thursday, June 6, at 2 p.m. Mortensen Funeral Homes, Charlevoix Chapel, handled arrangements.
He was born July 20, 1954, in Detroit. He was a graduate of Chadsey High School in Detroit, and proudly served as a sergeant and K-9 handler in the United States Air Force as a security police officer. He was a caring man who spent his time as a volunteer firefighter, was a deputy sheriff’s officer for the Roscommon County Sheriff’s Department and was an active and proud member of the Patriot Guard and Nozzleman Motorcycle Club.
Predeceased were his father, Daniel Kenneth Laginess Sr.; mother, Shirley Ann Laginess; and his faithful dog, Toby.
Surviving are his daughters, Sherry, Angie and Danielle Laginess; siblings, Barb, Pat, Laurie and Mark; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
