Charles Joseph Barton was born to Keith and Sophie Barton (nee Milczewski) on October 9, 1943. Joe was married for more than 52 years to his beloved wife, Sharron. Together they lovingly raised three children: Ken, Chris, and Josh, who married Zhengbo, Karen and Hailey, respectively. Joe was a caring grandfather to Kaitlin, Abigail, Allison, Bailey and Henry. He faithfully served his country by joining the U.S. Air Force as a member of the Security Police from 1965 to 1969. Joe was a dedicated employee of Ford Motor Company, retiring after 30 years of work. After he retired, he continued to work as a Henry Ford Hospital (Macomb) security officer and then later as a senior volunteer at the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
Joe was a talented, award-winning woodworker and wildlife artist. Artwork he created was displayed in museums and art shows in Michigan, Ontario and California. Joe was an accomplished life-long golfer and enjoyed playing a casual round with friends and family. He loved to take walks with Sharron along the shore of Lake Michigan near Grand Haven. Joe spent his free time working in his yard, tending his beautiful flower and decorative gardens. Joe had the ability to fix practically anything using a trusty toolbox inherited from his grandfather-in-law (maternal).
He passed at his home surrounded by loving family members on June 8, 2019. Joe requested donations be sent to St. Jude Children’s Hospital (Stjude.org). According to Joe’s wishes, a private family service has been held. Arrangements by The Spring Lake Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 213 E. Savidge St., Spring Lake, MI 49456.
