Kenneth J. “Ken” Anderson Sr., 78, Morganton, NC, died May 23, 2019, at home, holding his wife’s hand.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has already taken place.
He was born Feb. 23, 1941, at Houghton Lake, the son of Gen and Vern Anderson Sr. He grew up at Houghton Lake and graduated from Houghton Lake High School. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served for four years, including time in the Philippines, as well as being part of the Bay of Pigs deployment.
His many years of employment included Dow Chemical in Midland, serving as a Roscommon Township supervisor and being chairperson of the Tip-up Town Planning Committee. He was co-owner of Houghton Lake Block Company, Houghton Lake Redi-Mix and Randall Lumber Company.
He enjoyed reading and learning about history, exploring the outdoors, golfing and completing numerous projects, such as renovating houses and beautifying his yard and beloved rose bushes and taking the unique picture.
For many years, he lived in both Bay City and Carlsbad, NM. Most recently, he lived for just over a year in Morganton, NC.
Preceding him in death were his son, Ken Anderson Jr.; first wife, Judy (Acton) Anderson; and parents, Gen and Vern Anderson Sr.
Surviving are his wife, Beth Anderson; daughter, Mindy (John) Hines; stepdaughter, Mary C. (Brian) Quast-Rose; grandsons, John Hines Jr., Ken Anderson III and Sonny Anderson; stepgranddaughter, Madissen A. Rose; aunt and godmother, Donna Palmer; brothers, Vernon Bernard Anderson Jr., Terry (Phyllis) Anderson, Mike (Estela) Anderson, David Anderson and Paul (Susan) Anderson; sister, Mary (Leo) Geller; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
