TYLER I, Douglas Oct 9, 1943 – Jan 10, 2019

KALAMAZOO [mdash] Doug was traveling from his home in Kalamazoo to his home in Sebring, Florida, when he died suddenly of a stroke on Jan. 10, 2019.
Doug and his former wife, Sabrina, had just celebrated the holidays with Sabrina’s family in Kalamazoo. Doug passed at Piedmont Henry Hospital in Stockbridge, Georgia.
Doug had a smile and a hearty laugh which would light up any room. Doug never met a stranger and was a real charmer. Doug was a very kind and generous man.
Doug was born Oct. 9, 1943 in Kingsley, was baptized into the Kingsley United Methodist Church, attending Sunday school there as a child.
After moving to Traverse City, Doug attended Traverse City Senior High and graduated in 1962. Doug was a trumpet player and an advanced downhill Alpine snow skier who was a member of the ski patrol at Mt. Holiday.
From 1963 to 1965 Doug served in the U.S. Army, trained as a specialist Radio Technician while stationed in Kaiserslautern, Germany.
Upon returning to Traverse City, Doug married. Doug’s beloved, surviving children are Michele Tyler Moore and husband, Dan; Jennifer Tyler Sabatino, husband, Michael and granddaughter, Amelia Sabatino; Douglas Earl Tyler II and wife, Shelly; and Gabe P. Tyler.
Doug enjoyed boating, golfing and a good bike ride, too. At an early age, Doug enjoyed cooking for his family and friends, especially seafood.
Doug was predeceased by his parents, Earl and Evelyn Tyler; paternal grandparents, Cyril and Gertrude Tyler, who taught Doug to use a bow and deer rifle as well as to fish at an early age; his maternal grandparents, Elsie Anna and Clayton Wright; and many loving aunts and uncles. Doug lost his baby sister, Joan Tyler Tiffany in 1999 and her son and very special nephew, Christian Tiffany in 2008.
Doug successfully served as president and CEO of his building business, Midwest Contractors, for over 35 years in Kalamazoo.
Doug leaves to grieve for him his loving sister, Elaine Renollet and her husband, Daniel Renollet (Doug’s “brother” and best golfing partner) and also their children, Elizabeth Johannsen and husband, Kurt, and Daniel L. Renollet and wife, Haley. He is also survived by two aunts, one uncle and many loving cousins.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, Sept. 7, 2019 at the Kingsley United Methodist Church at 11:30 a.m., with a luncheon to follow. Per his wishes, Doug will be interred in Ft. Custer National Cemetery in Kalamazoo County.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Kingsley United Methodist Church.
