RAPID CITY [mdash] Virginia Louise Lee, 85, of Rapid City, passed away at home on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2019. Mrs. Lee was born on Dec. 15, 1933 in Bellaire, daughter to the late George and Gretchen (Robinson) Mariage.
Virginia went to college at Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City then continued when she moved to Leavenworth, Kansas, and earned her teaching certificate.
She married Neil Lee on May 14, 1955 at the Alden United Methodist Church.
She taught school in Kansas and also in Rapid City when she returned home. Virginia cared deeply for her community and served in many different positions through the years, including as the township supervisor, a level 2 tax assessor, chairman of the county Board of Commissioners, served on the Economic Development Committee, as well as the Kalkaska Memorial Health Center Board of Trustees. She was a longtime member of the Rapid City Church of Christ, where she enjoyed playing the piano.
Virginia is survived by her loving husband, Neil; sons, Rick Lee, of Yellowstone National Park and Rory Lee of Rapid City; daughter-in-law, Claudia Lee, of Rapid City; brothers, Joseph Mariage, of Rapid City, and Tracy Mariage, of Acme; sister, Gloria Cox, of Kalkaska; along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Rock Lee; brother, George Mariage; and sister, Sally Ann Vedder.
Visitation will be Sunday, Sept. 8, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Kalkaska Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Sept. 9, at 1 p.m., with final visitation beginning at noon. Andy Bratton will officiate the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Rapid City Church of Christ.
Arrangements have been entrusted with Kalkaska Funeral Home.
