SOUTH BOARDMAN [mdash] James Arthur “Pops” Davis, 91, of South Boardman, passed away peacefully at 9:18 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 9, 2019 at his home in South Boardman while surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on Sept. 9, 1928 in Marion to Robert and Hannah (Jolly) Davis.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of nearly 68 years, Sarah Elizabeth (Freeman) Davis, whom he married on June 30, 1950.
Surviving are his children, James (Marie) Davis, of Iron Mountain, Carol (Kenneth) Miller, of Kalkaska, and Robert (Jacqueline) Davis, of South Boardman; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and sister, Nelda Wilson.
Besides his wife, preceding him in death were his parents; one grandson, Joshua James Davis; two brothers, William and Robert Davis; and two sisters, Ila May Davis and Marian Kelly.
James was a longtime resident of South Boardman. A hard worker all of his life, he worked as a painter, aluminum welder and fabricator, builder and mechanic.
James loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a devoted and loving son, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
James was an amazing cook and loved to fellowship with his loved ones over a pancake breakfast – or a spaghetti, venison, fried chicken or fish dinner – followed by his famous homemade ice cream. James loved hunting and fishing often and continued to do so into his 90s. He also enjoyed picking blueberries with his wife in the Upper Peninsula.
James faithfully prayed for his loved ones alongside his wife, Sarah, both morning and night, and continued to do so after her passing, praying for nearly an hour before bed each night. He had a gift for showing God’s unconditional love to others – his favorite scripture being Colossians 3:12-17.
James was a blessing to all who knew him and will be dearly missed.
A celebration of life service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019 at Coldsprings Christian Fellowship, 532 S. Cedar St., Kalkaska. The Rev. Robert D. Davis will officiate.
The children request that all memorial contributions be made to Coldsprings Christian Fellowship.
