TRAVERSE CITY [mdash] James L. Foster, age 85, died Sept. 14, 2019 at Medilodge of Suttons Bay of lung failure. He was born Oct. 12, 1933 to Leonard and Elizabeth Foster in Detroit.
James was a U.S. Army veteran who served in the Korean War.
He loved sports, especially hockey; his favorite team was the Detroit Red Wings. He also loved to read and had a large collection of mysteries and western books.
He worked at UPS as a delivery specialist for 20 years as well as a maintenance technician at Disney World in Florida for a few years before returning to Northern Michigan.
On March 19, 1955 he married Elaine Ann Schmidt who passed away February 2015.
He was a loving and caring father who is survived by six children, Cheryl Foster, Sharon DeBruyne and her husband, Kevin, Laurie Cooney and her husband, Tim, James Bley and his wife, Connie, Brenda Nimeth, Martin Foster and his wife, Ator. He also leaves behind 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
He lived the past four wonderful years at Cordia in Traverse City, where he enjoyed reading his books on the front porch, attending concerts in the park, singing in the choir, attending movies in the theatre and spending time with friends and staff.
A special thank you is extended to Karen Anderson and the staff at Cordia for providing a better quality of life and looking after my father over the past four years.
Services will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Life Story Funeral Home. He will be buried Thursday at 12:30 p.m. in Great Lakes Memorial Cemetery in Holly.
