Richard Charles Borchert, 83, Houghton Lake, died July 19, 2020, at his home, with his family by his side.

A memorial service will be held Monday, Aug. 3, at 1 p.m. at Shepherd of the Lakes Evangelical Lutheran Church, 241 West Federal Highway, Roscommon, with Pastor Adam Seelow officiating. Interment will be in Chapel Hill Cemetery, Lansing. Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel, handled arrangements.

He was born Jan. 7, 1937, in Lansing, the son of Carl and Amanda (Binder) Borchert. He grew up in the Lansing area graduating from Eaton Rapids High School. He served in the Marines from 1954 to 1956.

On Nov. 25, 1959, in Lansing, he and Rosemary Adair were married. He worked as a PBX Installer for Michigan Bell and AT&T. Following his retirement in 1989, he and his wife moved to their house at Houghton Lake which they had owned since 1958.

Mr. Borchert was a member of Shepherd of the Lakes Evangelical Lutheran Church. He enjoyed tinkering and could fix anything from cars to televisions. He especially loved working on electronics.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and two sisters, Annmarie Hildenbrand and Madeline Ballard.

Surviving Mr. Borchert are his wife of more than 60 years, Rosemary Borchert of Houghton Lake; three daughters, Cathleen (Patrick) Stevens of Battle Creek, IA, Cynthia (Ronald) Partlo of Lansing and Debra (Ken) Styburski of Mackinac Island; son, Timothy Borchert of Houghton Lake; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Shepherd of the Lakes Evangelical Lutheran Church or Heartland Hospice.
