Former Houghton Lake resident James Napierski, 83, died July 25, 2020 at Canterbury on the Lake, Waterford.

Visitation, with social distancing guidelines, will be held at Dryer Funeral Home, Holly, from 3 to 8 p.m. Aug. 2. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home Aug. 3 at 11:30 a.m. Graveside services with military honors will be held at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly.

Born in Pontiac Sept. 9, 1936, he was the son of Walter and Cassie (Nowicki) Napierski. After attending Clarkston High School, he entered the U.S. Air Force, becoming an aircraft hydraulic repairman. Serving during the Korean Conflict era, he received the Good Conduct Medal.

After his time in the Air Force, he married Janet Stockwell, and raised three children, Susan, Edward and Shirley, at Houghton Lake. Mr. Napierski retired from General Motors, Pontiac, where he worked in the car manufacturing plant. He loved bowling, fishing, playing pool, working on cars and spending his time outdoors and with family.

Preceding him in death were his parents; former wife, Janet; and brothers-in-law, Truel Wicker and Lester Samuel.

Surviving Mr. Napierski are his sisters, Mildred Napierski, Margaret Wicker and Gertrude Samuel; children, Susan Phelps, Edward (Sandy) Napierski and Shirley Sutherland; grandchildren, David (Elishia) Hose, Kevin (Nicole) Hose, Jennifer (Scott) Baker, James Hose, Michael Hose, Cody DeRuiter, Dulce Galliher, Nicole Corson, Samantha Corson, Amber (Ryan) Rapp, Hollie (Shaun) Toole, Elizabeth Napierski, Kyle (Katie) Sutherland, Jessica (Bradley) Kalczynski and Adam Sutherland; and many great-grandchildren.
