James Ronald Miller, 56, Beaver Creek Township, died July 29, 2020, at Munson Hospital in Traverse City.
A service was held Aug. 3. Arrangements were handled by Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home.
He was born July 3, 1964, in Manistique, the son of Leo and Judith (Moore) Miller. He grew up in Hamtramck, where he worked as a paperboy. He worked as a volunteer firefighter in Beaver Creek Township from 1982 until 1987.
In February, 1986, he joined the Army reserves and was in the 1438th Transportation Division in Traverse City. He was transferred to the Army National Guard stationed at Camp Grayling. He worked at Weyerhauser for 32 years, retiring in August, 2019. He loved hunting, fishing and trapping.
He loved spending time with his grandchildren, each of whom had their special thing with grandpa. He had a small hobby farm and loved his animals. He recently bought a small travel trailer and started camping more. On cool evenings, he and his wife would get Dairy Queen and go for a ride, listening to classic rock.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Leo and Judith.
Surviving Mr. Miller are his wife, Billie Jo; children, James Miller and Jennifer Miller; grandchildren, Lealon, Oakleigh, Julian, Victoria, Aiden and Dawson; mother-in-law, Betty Hawley; sisters, Tammy Sims, Bridgette Anderson and Tracy Woodcock; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
