Elvin Glenn “Al” Murray Jr., 71, Houghton Lake, died Aug. 6, 2020, at Munson Healthcare.
No service will be held. Burial will be in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Memorial contributions may be sent to 121 Leafy Lane, Roscommon, MI 48653.
He was born Jan. 12, 1949, to Elvin Murray Sr. and Flossie M. (Stacy) Murray. He worked as a truck driver for 40 years. He served in the Army in Vietnam. He was a Lutheran, member of the Eagles, an AA leader and mentor and avid euchre player.
Mr. Murray was passionate about AA recovery and lived a sober life for 11 years. Every year he earned a sobriety coin, he celebrated. If he could share anything, it would be to live sober, love others, accept the things you cannot change and change the things you can.
He loved the outdoors, especially fishing. He died knowing that he was forgiven and loved by many friends and family members. His family expressed its appreciation to all who encouraged and supported him.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Elvin Murray Sr. and Flossie M. Murray; sisters, Rosalie Murray and Maggie (Murray) Clute; and brother, Less Murray.
Surviving Mr. Murray are his daughters, Laura (Sean) Bell and Maria (Eric) Lenz; sons, Michael (Andrea) Murray and Mark (Justen) Murray; stepson, David Stacy; grandchildren, Lola, Lincoln, Annamarie, Theodore, Kristina, Xavier and Olivia; many more grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and brother, Donald Murray.
