Doris Jean Weekley, 74, Houghton Lake, died Aug. 29, 2020, at Mid Michigan Medical Center in Midland.
A service was held Sept. 1, at at Christler Funeral Home, Prudenville Chapel. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
She was born Dec. 31, 1945, in Clarksburg, WV, to Howard and Eugenia (Swiger) Mitchell. She grew up in West Virginia and moved to the Detroit area with her family. She was married to Keith Weekley, who preceded her in death in 1978.
Mrs. Weekley worked as a dry cleaner manager for Mai Kai Cleaners in Southfield, along with raising her two sons. She moved from Redford Township to Houghton Lake in 2005. She enjoyed being outdoors, snowmobiling, camping and fishing. She also enjoyed occasional casino trips. Her true love was caring for her dogs and birds.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Keith Weekley; son, Richard Weekley; stepson, Thomas Schmitzer; and sister, Louise Santos.
Surviving Mrs. Weekley are her son, Keith “Randy” (Susan) Weekley of Elk Rapids; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; sister, Dolores (Leon) McCurry of Wyandotte; two stepdaughters, Linda Schmitzer of Belleville and Tammy (James) Peters of Houghton Lake; two stepsons, Robert Schmitzer of Belleville and Chester (Kelly) Schmitzer of Houghton Lake; several stepgrandchildren; nieces and nephews, including Charmanine Santos of Houghton Lake; and her significant other, Don Bieniek of Houghton Lake.
