COX, William May 18, 1972 – Mar 25, 2021

TRAVERSE CITY [mdash] William Lawrence Cox, known to his friends and family as Billy, 48, of Traverse City, passed away on Thursday, March 25. He was born in Detroit on May 18, 1972. Billy spent his younger years in Arizona, before moving to Traverse City.
Billy loved playing outdoors, and enjoyed outings on the golf course as well as ripping up the trails on his dirt bike with friends. Billy loved to travel regardless of the destination, and spend time with his family taking in new adventures.
Billy was blessed with an amazing smile that radiated in any photograph he took including a sometimes awkward selfie. His humor and playful nature were apparent in all areas of his life and were never lacking with his crew on the job. Billy had a way of making everyone laugh, and helped everyone in his presence to not take life too seriously. He loved to help other people, and always gave others a second chance or the benefit of the doubt.
The last three years of his life were some of the most beautiful he lived. Billy was active in recovery from addiction and met the girl of his dreams, Meghan.
Billy and Meghan had their son, Jaxson, who was the center of Billy's universe. Billy loved his girls and continuously worked to improve their relationships. His business flourished and he became unimaginably successful in all the ways he had ever wanted.
Even in his death, Billy was able to help others. His family donated his brain to be used in research for addiction. Billy struggled with substance use throughout his life, and ultimately lost his battle.
Billy is survived by his wife, Meghan; son, Jaxson; daughters, Emma and Elise Cox and Audri Malinowski; his mother, Rose Marie Cox; Emma and Elise's mother, Enan Cox; his siblings, Shari (Bruce) Brazen, Loretta (Paul) Miller, Kim (Damien) Farmer, Maureen Cox; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of Billy's life will be held on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Community Church.
For those wishing to make a memorial contribution, a memorial fund for his son will be set up. Contributions can be made directly to his wife, Meghan, or through gofundme at
