Michael Brent Jacobs

Longtime Houghton Lake Chamber of Commerce and Houghton Lake Snow Groomers volunteer Michael Brent Jacobs, 57, died March 24, 2021, at home in Prudenville.

A gathering of friends and family will take place to celebrate his life, with the date and time to be announced.

He was born Feb. 3, 1964, to Douglas and Cassandra (Kimling) Jacobs in Portsmouth, VA. He grew up in Ovid and St. Johns, graduating from St. Johns High School, with the Class of 1982. He later settled in Prudenville, where he had spent much of his life at his grandparents’ cottage and had fallen in love with the lake life.

After graduation, Mr. Jacobs went to work for General Motors in Flint, where he made many lifelong friends. He retired from GM and spent his spare time volunteering at the Houghton Lake Chamber of Commerce and with the Houghton Lake Snow Groomers when his health permitted.

He was passionate about the trail system and worked closely with the Department of Natural Resources and Snow Groomers group to continually improve the trail system surrounding Houghton Lake.

His other love was being a DJ. He loved karaoke, singing and playing at parties, bars and right at home. He worked on and off for many years at The Limberlost, played many Bud Bash and Tip-up-Town events and an annual Halloween party downstate that he loved.

He was very handy and could fix most anything electrical, motorized or computer related. He loved the lake and spent many hours on the south sandbar making new friends. If you saw the volleyball net in the water, you knew he was there to start a party.

He would do anything to help anyone. The most important thing in his life were his daughters, Brianna and Mikayla. He was so proud of their accomplishments and loved them beyond words.

Surviving are his brothers, Eric Jacobs of St. Johns and Christopher Jacobs of Chandler, AZ; sisters, Leigh Ann Wade of Baytown, TX, and Misty Simmer of Lansing; daughter, Brianna (Brandon Bennett) Jacobs; grandchildren, Bryden and Sutherlyn of Laingsburg; daughter, Mikayla (Thomas Cochran) Jacobs of Prudenville; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; and three kitties that he greatly loved.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help with funeral/burial costs gofund.me/7ab0ada4.
