PFANDER, Richard Nov 25, 1934 – Mar 20, 2021

PLYMOUTH [mdash] Richard "Dick" Frederick Pfander, of Plymouth, passed away March 20, 2021 at the age of 86.
Dick was born on Nov. 25, 1934, in Battle Creek, to his parents, Frederick and Alice (Everhart) Pfander.
Dick met and married the love of his life, Colette Ann Waterman, on Dec. 19, 1959.
He served in the Michigan Air National Guard before earning a bachelor's in education from Western Michigan University.
Dick taught school for four years in the Pennfield School District in Battle Creek.
He then went to work at the Federal Center in Battle Creek for Defense Property Disposal Services.
However, his real passion was sports and he spent many hours, every day, working on NBA statistics.
At the age of 44, he began running; he especially loved to run in all sorts of road races from 5K's all the way up to three marathons.
He also refereed high school basketball games, compiled statistics for youth and recreation baseball tournaments and swim meets and umpired recreation league baseball games.
In 2008, he was inducted into the Battle Creek Area Amateur Sports Association Wall of Fame for his outstanding contributions to amateur baseball in Battle Creek and the State of Michigan.
Dick retired from the government in 1988 and he and Colette built their dream home on Crystal Lake in northern Michigan and moved there in the year of 1991. They also spent winters in Florida and bought a small home in Winterhaven, Florida.
Dick is survived by his daughters, Colleen (Thomas) Gredd, of Canton, Julaine (Frederick) Eddy, of Midland; son, Gregory (JoeLee) Pfander, of Glenrock, Wyoming; grandchildren, Joseph (Ashley) Greff, Nicholas (Melissa) Bonello-Greff, Allison Greff, Jaclyn Greff, Mercedes, Cheyanne, Houston, Rhyannon and Brooklyn Pfander; and great-grandchildren, Connor, MacKenzie, Orlando, Gavin, Athena and Harmony.
A celebration of life will be held at Blaine Christian Church, in Arcadia, on April 24, 2021 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Bob Larimer officiating.
Burial will be in Blaine Township Cemetery.
Contributions may be directed to Blaine Christian Church in Dick's name.
Arrangements are being handled by Jowett Family Funeral Home in Benzonia.
