PSENKA, JR, Joseph Sep 17, 1945 – Mar 3, 2021

LELAND [mdash]Joseph Alexander Psenka, Jr of Leland and Bloomfield Hills, passed away March 3, 2021 in Phoenix, Ariz.
Joe was a loving and attentive son to his parents, Joseph and Thelma (Neimi) Psenka; and a thoughtful and dependable brother to Carolyn Psenka (Thomas Killion) and Joanne Psenka; his children, Jonathan "Jake" Psenka (Anne Marie Dohm), Lisa Psenka (Gregory Jolliffe), and Charles Psenka, will remember a father whose love for them remains undeniably clear. Joe's 10 beloved grandchildren will remember him as a gentle, loving presence in their lives.
Born in Flint in 1945, Joe's family moved first to Detroit and then to Bloomfield Hills in 1954. After earning his mechanical engineering degree in 1969 from Kettering University, Joe established his independent consulting firms, working with the U.S. military and other diverse customers around the world.
In 1987, Joe and his family moved from Birmingham to Leland where they started the Snowbird Inn. He planted his dream orchard of antique and heirloom cider apple trees, and spent summer afternoons on the lake in his classic wooden Chris-Craft.
Joe achieved extraordinary results with the alternative therapies he pursued when faced with a grim cancer diagnosis decades ago. In the many happy years since, Joe freely shared his health story and resources, positively impacting hundreds of lives.
He was a man of few words, unless he was talking about apples or the importance of good nutrition. He was an elegant and masterful pool player, who instilled in his children an abiding fondness for dive bars. He was an engineer, natural health pioneer, innkeeper, and farmer, who made the weekly commute from 'down-state' to 'up-north' for over 30 years. Joe will be missed by his family, a vast network of associates, a multitude of friends, and his dear, close companions.
A celebration of life will be held in Leland later this summer.
Memorial contributions may be made to Kettering University
