FRANKE, Barbara Feb 21, 1936 – Apr 3, 2021

TRAVERSE CITY [mdash] Barbara Elizabeth Franke, 85, of Traverse City, died peacefully in her sleep on April 3, 2021. She was a resident most recently of the Traverse City Pavilion Cottages.
Barbara was the second child born to Betty (Rothenhauser) and Adam Tollmann on February 21, 1936 at their home on Virginia Park in Center Line. Along with her sister, they tended to a large garden, chickens and ducks. As a hobby she played the trumpet in her high school band and loved to dance.
Barbara graduated from Busch High School in 1956 and went on to Michigan State College to study hotel and hospitality management. She worked in the food service industry for many years, and in the family restaurant, "The Bambi", between Frederic and Waters. A skiing accident, which resulted in many eye surgeries, put her college degree on hold permanently. After her recovery, she traveled to Germany and met Otto Franke. They later married in 1958 and had two children, Barbara and Walter.
Barbara worked for many years as a bookkeeper for Fitzgerald High School, and then she also worked with Otto when they began their own precision tooling distribution business, Center Line Industrial Supply.
She was a wonderful cook and baker, passing many of her skills to her children and grandchildren. After retiring, she and Otto divorced, and Barb moved north. She was fortunate in that she was able to do some great traveling with family. In her later years she became adept with her computer skills and was determined to use her iPhone. She was often found playing cards or casino games on her phone or computer. While her family teased her for being the "Amazon Queen", they always appreciated the gifts she would research and send to them. She gave the best presents. Her family and friends will remember her for her kindness, generosity, and quick wit.
Barbara was blessed with six grandchildren, Josef W. Kolling, who passed Feb. 2, 2014, Christina (Adam) Carlson, Conrad Franke, Colton Franke, Cara Franke and Caleb Franke; and two great-grandsons, Josef and Adam Carlson. She would babysit often, and her six grandchildren enjoyed adventures and escapades with her.
She leaves behind her daughter, Barbara (Josef) Kolling; and son, Walter (Jana) Franke, and their families; her three closest cousins, Rita, Hans and Delores; extended family, and many friends.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, public service will not be held at this time.
Arrangements by Jowett Family Funeral Home.
