Carol Lynn DeFrain was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 25, 1942 to Herbert and Ruth Hargan. She was one of two children. Carol passed away peacefully with all of her daughters by her side, in Livonia, Michigan on February 12, 2023 at the age of 80. She was also under the gentle care of Heart to Heart Hospice.
Carol was the beloved wife of Dennis for 50 years this year and together they raised a “Brady Bunch” family. She was the loving mother of Julie Cleveland (Norvin), Suzan Soto, Laurie Soto (Kevin Borso), and Linda Stonier (John). Caring step-mother of Michael DeFrain, Kevin DeFrain, and Kelly DeFrain (Norma). Dear grandma of Christina Lambert (Scott), Nathan DeFrain, Joshua DeFrain, Nicholas Cleveland, Benjamin Hunt, Lucas Hunt, Tommy Gatses, Carolin Stonier, Corey DeFrain, Jaret DeFrain and Jack Stonier. Great-grandma of Carson Brown, and Theo Lambert.
Carol retired from Livonia Public Schools after a happy career as a Media Specialist. She loved writing poetry and even published a poetry book; “Wings of a Dream”. Carol enjoyed spending time up north with Denny at the family cottage whenever she could. It was her “happy place”. She loved nature and animals, there was always a dog in the house, but she was especially fond of her beloved cat “Hillary Kitten” who preceded her in death at age 15. Carol also looked forward to going to “Sandy’s by the Beech” bar and grill in Redford Twp., every Friday and ordering a Spanish Coffee; the staff knew her well.
She had an affinity for music and her favorite song was “Wildflower” by Skylark. Carol loved to sing beautiful ballads with her closely-knit, deeply loved daughters (in perfect harmony). She, a beautiful sweet songbird, loved the tranquility of nature and wildflowers. Carol had a warm heart and an unmistakable laugh that was contagious. She will be deeply missed.
Carol’s family will celebrate her life with a memorial service at a later date.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared in the guest book for the DeFrain family.
