David Allan Hodowaine, age 44, passed away on March 28, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones. David was a gentle, loving soul. He was great with his hands and loved to get them dirty as a talented diesel mechanic. He loved the outdoors, spending all his free time fishing, hunting, and riding his snowmobile, never missing an opportunity to cut through some fresh powder. He had a soft spot for animals, ensuring that his “kids” were always taken care of.

He loved his garage, as it was his place of comfort, peace, and joy; his sanctuary where he could relax and lose himself in his work/hobbies, and shoot the breeze with whomever would respond at 1:30 AM. He was Hettinger Racing’s biggest fan; he loved watching recordings of past races and was incredibly proud of Chris and Katie and all their success.

David is survived by his father, Richard (Cindy) Hodowaine; sisters: Stephanie (Ryan) Hasiak, Melissa LaPan, Melanie (Jason) Mansfield; brother, John Hodowaine; longtime girlfriend, Amy Cann; nieces and nephews: Alex, Bella, Erica, MaryClaire, Sydney, Julian, Cody, and Karter; aunts and uncles: Dianne Hubbard, Ron (Sharon) Hodowaine, Roxie LaMacchia, Karen (Bobby) Stewart; and grandparents: Dan and Lorene Willcutt Sr. David is also survived by his uncle Dan (Ashley) Lewis, with whom he was very close.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Madaline Denison; grandparents: Edward and Vera Hodowaine, Floyd Lewis, James and Nita Bliss; uncle, James Bliss; and his beloved 4-legged companion, Maggie.

The family will greet friends from 1:00pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at Kaul Funeral Home, 35201 Garfield Rd., Clinton Twp., Michigan. Private interment at DeepDale Memorial Gardens, Lansing, Michigan, at a later date. The family kindly requests that guests wear University of Michigan apparel when visiting.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation made in David’s memory to: Pink Ribbon Riders. A great organization close to David’s heart that provides direct financial assistance to both men and women diagnosed with breast cancer.
