Dorothy Helen Hinkley

Posted on January 27, 2023 by

Dorothy Helen Hinkley, 92, Houghton Lake, died Jan. 24, 2023, in Grayling, in the presence and comfort of her family.

Her family has chosen to remember her privately at this time. Arrangements were handled by Wagner and Walsh Funeral Directors, Roscommon.

She was born in Waynesboro, GA, the daughter of Ponder and Mae (Moore) Gay. She and James Hinkley were united in marriage Dec. 19, 1964, in Utica.

Mrs. Hinkley was passionate about her grandchildren. She, along with her husband, will always be remembered as having effortlessly taken on being the greatest grandparents and providing unforgettable memories.

Her greatest time was spent with her family. Her family members expressed their appreciation for the care given to her during her short visit at Crawford Continuing Care Center.

She will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents; son, Rick; great-granddaughter, Marissa; brother, Bob; and sisters, Bobbie and Gloria.

Surviving are her husband of 58 years, Jim Hinkley; daughter, Toni Gay Kaufman; grandchildren, Shannon (Eric) Bartok and Heather (Brian) Stehle; great-grandchildren, Mateo, Ashlie, Emma, Nicholas, Price, Abigail and Allie; brother, Ken Gay of Macon, GA; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mrs. Hinkley had an absolute love for her fur babies, “Brandi” “Candy” “Jodi” and “Missy,” which is why the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Roscommon County Animal Shelter.
