Mary Ellen Carlson, 84 years old and from Central Lake in Michigan died on March 31, 2019 at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility Bellaire. She was raised by her brother Robert in Whitehall with Harry (Bob) and Nora Carlson in Whitehall.
Her musical talents and baton-twirling skills flourished in her role as the lead majorette of Muskegon Catholic Central’s Marching Band. She was an accomplished pianist who was ready to perform for family members and friends. In her youth, she was an extremely religious woman who thought about becoming a Catholic Nun. She found great joy and strength in praying the rosary every day and going to Mass at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, Bellaire.
Her parents Harry and Nora, and her brother Bob Carlson preceded her to heaven. Her nieces and her nephews will remember her: Suzanne (Ernest), Heikkila Chris, Mike (Katy), Carlson Andy (Erin), Sponn Mary Theresa Geoffory. Mary’s family extends their sincere gratitude to Sheri, her caregiver and the Simonson Family of Central Lake who have provided a home to Mary for more than forty years. Mary’s long-time friend Norma Jean kept in contact with her, even though she lived a distance away.
Mary Ellen Carlson’s farewell mass was celebrated by Rev James R. Swiat. We extend our gratitude to him and the other parishioners at St Luke’s.
The funeral mass for Fr. James Swiat will be held at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, Bellaire, on April 13th, 2023 at 12 noon. James Swiat will be the celebrant. The visitation is scheduled for Thursday, from 11 a.m. to noon. The burial will be at a future date at the St. James Mount Calvary Cemetery in Montague.
